New Art Class starts July 11, 2012

I have been asked several times to teach some art classes so
here we go!
This class will be located in the Santa Ana Art District at the
Orange County Contemporary Center for the Arts Gallery. (www.occca.org/gallery-info)
This class
will teach beginner and experienced artists the use of "Value", one of the
most important elements in art. It will get you off to an excellent start
if you are just beginning and if you are an experienced artist, the class
will teach you to control value to give your work more dimension and
drama.
This is the first and required class in my series of color theory
classes where we work on color, temperature, gradation and more.
My class
is for Adults, but I welcome serious 16+ ages that will be studying art in
college or will be seeking a career in art.
We will be working in oils and
all materials will be supplied as we will be discussing these as well.
Email me directly at DarcieArt@earthlink.net for registration informationwww.DarcieArt.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02911368059094991814noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6818883393383385990.post-37376165996081213232011-09-04T02:17:00.000-07:002011-09-04T02:29:24.785-07:00
Just finished up my solo exhibit at Copperwood Artware Gallery in Orange, Ca.
Very nice show! Took a little time off from Rebus painting to work on an unfinished western piece I've had sitting in the corner of my studio, but I'm ready to get back to creating more puzzles. I have so many ideas! "Dog Days of Summer" is my latest Rebus.

Scary. Very scary. I've been working on putting together a Facebook page "Darcie Copeland Rebus Artist" (I know, I know, but better late than never).
It should make for great fun with the Darcie Game and allow all you game players to interact with each other. Plus, I won't be the only one to see some of those hilarious guesses! I'll try to get it up and going for Rebus 30, which will be out very soon, and hopefully get some clues posted before the game starts. Key words here being "I'll try"!

So... it has taken my paintin hand forever to heal from a fall I took in January. I have pretty good movement in all my fingers except two which are now going to take longer to heal because my dog jumped on them tonight. I guess it could be worse. She could be a 150 pound mutt instead of a 70 pound mutt. Felt like 150 pounds though. Okay enough about my pain. I think I will dedicate this blog to the artists who visit my website in search of any useful tips...or not. I just started using Trekell paint brushes (the Red Sable and the Hog Bristles) and absolutely love them. They are long lasting, hold their shape and are very reasonably priced. www.trekell.com I've tried several different brands and some very pricey brands as well, but these are my new favorites. I like to paint on a high quality linen which I get from Signature Canvas www.SignatureCanvas.com (ask for Alicia...she is awesome) where you can buy it by the yard. Its a great way to sample the different types without selling your car to buy the whole bolt. For those of you who have never experienced painting on linen...its worth every penny. I get asked frequently about digital captures and scanning and who does a good job. If I need a clear hi-res digital file for reproductions, magazine ads and high end juried shows the absolute best place I have found is Artscans in Culver City, CA. www.artscans.com They have been around forever and their work is impeccable. Keep in mind, if you start out with a bad digital capture it will haunt you forever...especially everytime you try to reproduce it! No amount of photoshop can fix a poorly scanned piece of art.
If any of you are photographers and are looking for instruction on how to improve...Jon Haverstick in Orange County is the man. He is not only an accomplished photographer, he is an instructor of photography and photoshop as well. Available in studio or on location. I can go on and on about how awesome his work is but you can see for yourself at www.pbase.com/haverstick Jon came to my studio and did a photo shoot with me in my work space and some head shots. Great for resumes and mag. ads.

Here we go...Rebus 29 now in play! Well, I have to say this is a pretty easy one although the spelling is a little tricky. It took a little longer to paint than I had planned. I sprained all the fingers on my painting hand when I tripped and fell gracefully on my face! So I was out of commission for a bit, but I'm now ready to create more Rebuses.

Hidden clues in Rebus 29 are the words: AXL, SLASH, NOVEMBER RAIN and SWEET CHILD O' MINE

www.DarcieArt.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02911368059094991814noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6818883393383385990.post-30670572313586601552010-11-08T23:52:00.000-08:002010-11-09T00:11:56.759-08:00"Hanging On by a Thread"Congratulations to Maoli Yamaguchi from Playa del Rey, California for being the first game player to figure out the name of Rebus 28! For those of you still trying to figure out the script lettering in the background, they are scientific names for endangered animal species.
Did you know when you play the Rebus game, you are competing with game players all over the country? There are Rebus game players from Hawaii to New York. The major concentration of players reside in California with Washington next. Of course, this is just what I have on record. There are about 200 game players that I can't account for...not sure where they are from. Perhaps maybe some are from outside the US.
Well, stay tuned and perhaps I will post some clues for my upcoming Rebus 29!www.DarcieArt.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02911368059094991814noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6818883393383385990.post-77845717985801384562010-11-02T23:58:00.000-07:002010-11-03T00:26:30.439-07:00Rebus Game 28

My latest Rebus #28 has just been released out via "The Darcie Game". For those of you who are on the email list and play the game...here are a few of the clues hidden in the painting that are probably too small for you to see with the screen resolution. On the face of the spool it reads "Lindsay Lohan, Michael Jacksons Dr. and also the zip code for the White House". The painting lacked a little something in the background so I added some scientific names (that's for you to figure out) to balance things out a bit. Good Luck!!

What should I paint, what should I paint? When I start thinking "Rebus" my mind starts spinning. So many ideas. As I bounce ideas off Chaz he bounced one back that sent me reeling. Paint started flyin and before long, the canvas was covered. This little Rebus doesn't have a number but it's label reads "Rebus Gone Wild". The start of a new series of Rebus. The only way to see this little guy is to see it in person at my booth #D24 at the Art-A-Fair Festival.www.DarcieArt.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02911368059094991814noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6818883393383385990.post-39461724199463184302010-06-11T23:47:00.000-07:002010-06-12T00:07:53.016-07:002010 Laguna Beach Art-A-FairIt's time to gear up for Laguna Beach Art-A-Fair, the outdoor summer show by the beach. They had fun. So I figured "why not invite everyone in the world to play the game?" And what would be more fun than being the first to guess the title correctly? Yes, that's right...a prize. Aside from proving to the hundreds of Rebus game players that you are the most genius out of all of them (or that you are addicted to checking your emails every 5 minutes) you actually win a mini Limited Edition collector print of the original painting!

The idea came to me when I was visiting a client in her office. There it was, in all it's glory, a giant rubber band ball. I'm not sure if I actually heard a word Tena said to me that day in her office because my entire focus was glued to that darn ball on her shelf. It happens to all of us eventually. You see something that catches your eye, stops you in your tracks and all you can think is "I gotta have one of those."
I spent the next two months collecting rubber bands.
The names of 10 Rock and Roll bands are hidden in that piece. The names include AC/DC, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Queen, Beatles and more.www.DarcieArt.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02911368059094991814noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6818883393383385990.post-16655252427206699872008-07-05T23:33:00.000-07:002008-07-06T00:02:06.951-07:00Rebus 1 "Olive Oil"When I started this piece, I already had a clear vision in my head of what I wanted "Olive Oil" to look like. I needed that little tiny oil can that my dad used around the garage when I was a young teenager. (about 10 years ago) (Ok, I'm lying about my age)
It took some memory jogging before Dad remembered what I was talking about and he found it neatly stashed in depths of his shop. "Your grandma used to use this little guy to oil her sewing machine back in the day"www.DarcieArt.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02911368059094991814noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6818883393383385990.post-12617370609866910262008-05-27T22:47:00.000-07:002008-07-06T00:00:18.385-07:00"Key Lime Pi"It all started with "Key Lime Pi".
It actually started with me thinking I was really going to paint a still life of a real "Key Lime Pie" while thumbing through my cookbooks. As I was thinking about having to make a Key Lime Pie so I could paint it, I started thinking how much easier it would be to use an actual key and a whole lime so I wouldn't have to bake. But I got stuck on the "pie" part. I would still need a pie. Then I thought "PI". Yes, math. If I could use PI or 3.14 in my painting with a key and a lime...I wouldn't have to bake.
Thus, my first Rebus was born!
This piece was selected to Exhibit in the Salon International 2007, International Museum of Contemporary Masters, Greenhouse Gallery, San Antonio, Texas and then went on to win an award at the 2007 Women Artists of the West, East meets West juried show, Hilligoss Galleries in Chicago.
In this piece, like all my works, I have many hidden things. From words spelled backwards to clues such as the word "DonMon" (DonKEY MonKEY) More obvious clues include the page number (314) and the Limes (3.14 of them).www.DarcieArt.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02911368059094991814noreply@blogger.com0
